Wild Foraged Mushrooms & Mushroom Identification
Alongside the mushrooms we grow, BLH Farm works with wild foraged mushrooms. Matt Arthur is certified through the Missouri Mycological Society as both a Missouri Wild Mushroom Expert and a Missouri Morel Expert.
Those two certifications mean he can identify wild mushrooms for sale, both the ones we forage ourselves and harvests brought to us by other foragers.
What we do
- Sell wild foraged mushrooms in season. Morels in spring, and other wild species as they appear through the year. Supply depends entirely on the weather and the woods, so quantities vary week to week.
- Identify mushrooms for foragers. Missouri food-safety rules require wild-harvested mushrooms to be identified by a certified expert before they can be sold to restaurants, grocers, or the public. If you forage and want to sell your harvest, we can certify it.
- Supply chefs and restaurants. We can source wild species for kitchens in Columbia, Fulton, Jefferson City, and St. Louis alongside our cultivated mushrooms.
Looking for wild mushrooms?
Wild supply is seasonal and sells out quickly, so we don't list it in the shop. Email us at matt@blhfarm.com and tell us what you're after, how much you need, and when. We'll let you know what's coming in.
Have mushrooms you want identified?
Send us clear photos of the whole mushroom (cap, underside, stem, and base) along with where and what it was growing on, and we'll go from there. For a harvest you intend to sell, we'll arrange to see the mushrooms in person. Get in touch.
A note on safety: never eat a wild mushroom you haven't had positively identified. Some Missouri species are dangerous, and several edible ones have look-alikes.
Prefer cultivated?
We grow USDA Organic oyster, lion's mane, shiitake, and more, harvested to order year-round. Shop fresh mushrooms or see our Mushroom CSA.
